Glaciers are masses of ice which move over land, carving out the landscape.

Because they are sensitive to any changes in climate, they are indicators of global warming.

Here we look at images of glaciers captured by satellites and astronauts on the space station.

 

The Bear Glacier in the Kenai Peninsula along the Gulf of Alaska empties into a lake.

Pieces of the glacier that have broken off look like shards of white glass in the blue water.

Down the middle of the glacier run stripes caused by the dirt and debris.

Small glaciers spill into a mostly dry valley in western Greenland in this picture from August 29, 2009.

Multiple glaciers frequently flow into straight valleys that result from earlier glaciations that carved the bedrock.

zanimivo, verjetno vecina od nas niti pomisli ne, da zaradi banan, ki jih uzivamo iztrebljajo opice.

Ja, in res, dezevni gozd se seka! Najvec menda za sojo, oljno repico in palmovo olje; ter hrano za prasice, perutnino in govedo.

 

sicer pa fajn da si podvomla, da sm lahk vse tist napopu da se kdo drugi vidi; drgac bi se rekl, da "spet" tezim

res se ne spoznam na vse te zadeve, sam ne verjamem kaj preveč. me zanima, kolk teh klikarjev je banane, zarad katerih pobijajo opice. naprimer. alpa operem posodo, pa cunje, pa avto, pa... potem grem pa mal poklikat na net, recimo za čistejšo vodo.

jps, pobijejo odrasle opice, ki pridejo "krast" banane, mladiče pustijo.... včasih jim morajo potem (mladičem) odsekat par prstov, da jih sploh lahko spravijo z mrtvih mater, ker se jih tolk oklepajo.

hm, ne vem, če nism glih te j. goodalove gledala. če se prav spomnim , so začeli hraniti opice z bananami in šimpanzi so postali dost bolj agresivni, pobijali so mladiče drugih vrst opic, kar se sicer redko dogaja. ko so jim pa nehal nosit hrano, so se zadeve nazaj umirile.

hja, vse ma svoje razloge in ni nakljucij! hocem rect, da nismo na nepravem mestu, temvec je "nepravo" nas privilegij in izkoristek casa tukaj na tem planetu.

Enkrat je na predavanju budisticni menih povedal, da ce bi v enem zivljenju napredovali vsaj 1%, ni nilo to ogromno! Saj bi bili v 100 zivljenjih razsvetljeni!

A Solar Prominence Erupts in STEREO

Credit: STEREO Project, NASA Explanation: What does a solar prominence look like in three dimensions? To help find out, NASA launched the STEREO satellites to keep a steady eye on the Sun from two different vantage points. The STEREO satellites orbit the Sun nearly along Earth's orbit, but one (dubbed Ahead) currently leads the Earth, while the other (dubbed Behind) currently trails. Three weeks ago, a powerful prominence erupted and remained above the Sun for about 30 hours, allowing the STEREO satellites to get numerous views of the prominence from different angles. Pictured above is a high-resolution image of the event from the STEREO Ahead satellite. A video of the prominence erupting as seen from both spacecraft can be found

. The unusually quiet nature of the Sun over the past two years has made large prominences like this relatively rare. The combined perspective of STEREO will help astronomers better understand the mechanisms for the creation and evolution of prominences, coronal mass ejections, and flares.

A Twisted Solar Eruptive Prominence

Credit: SOHO Consortium, EIT, ESA, NASA Explanation: A huge eruptive prominence is seen moving out from our Sun in this condensed half-hour time-lapse sequence. Ten Earths could easily fit in the "claw" of this seemingly solar monster. This large prominence, though, is significant not only for its size, but its shape. The twisted figure eight shape indicates that a complex magnetic field threads through the emerging solar particles. Recent evidence of differential rotation inside the Sun might help account for the surface explosion. The sequence was taken early this year by the Sun-orbiting SOHO satellite. Although large prominences and energetic Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are relatively rare, they are occurring more frequently now that we are near the Solar Maximum, a time of peak sunspot and solar activity in the eleven-year solar cycle.
