http://www.opwall.com/smile.jpg A second primate species the Spectacled Tarsier (Tarsius spectrum) also occurs in the forests of central Buton. Previous studies by Operation Wallacea teams have shown that the tarsier in central Buton has a distinctive call from its counterpart species on mainland Sulawesi and that it may represent a separate species or subspecies. The Lambusango and Kakenauwe forests are strongholds for this tarsier species and the project is the first attempt to obtain an estimate of the population density and habitat selection by the Buton population. Volunteers on this project will be placed at various points around the study grids as darkness falls to listen for the contact calls of the tarsiers as they emerge from their sleeping trees. The position of the sleeping trees will be plotted and repeat monitoring in the area carried out over a number of days to ensure that all the roost sites had been identified. Habitat descriptions of the roost sites will also be completed by the teams. Given data on the density of sleeping trees in different forest types and the average size of a tarsier group, then estimates of the population protected in the Lambusango and Kakenauwe forests can be made.

Takšen izračun velja za katerokoli leto.
